How I Became A Professional Organizer

My mother was German and my father is Czech. This combination didn’t strike me as interesting until I studied European history.

As a child, I remember going to my paternal grandfather’s house where only Czech was spoken and all of the grandchildren, as well as my mom, didn’t have a clue as to what might be the topic of conversation. However my parents’ union lasted for 56 years and produced five children.

My mother was very organized, and would sometimes announce that she had “thoroughly” cleaned a particular appliance or room when I came home from school. I came to appreciate her organization and home maintenance skills as a young woman living alone. I got started by organizing a friend’s closet and she commented, “You’re good at this, you should do it for a living.” And after investigating the field, taking relevant coursework, joining the National Association of Professional Organizers…here I am!
